Soda is being compared to the cigarettes of the eighties. Are you a fan of the drink? This article will examine the pro (well, the only one that I can come up with) and the cons of drinking soda.
Let’s start with the cons of drinking soda because, well, there are so many.
Soda has more sugar in one serving than we should consume in a day (or week). Even better, the companies will make it a point to break down the serving size of a bottle to try to make things look a little better for them. While the serving size may say that soda has 39 grams of sugar, when there are 2 of those servings we’re quickly talking about 78 grams of sugar.
Soda has caramel coloring. I don’t understand the point of this additive, and it’s not exclusive to soda. From all the research I’ve seen it seems as if caramel color is useful for the aesthetics of food and beverage only. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather eat or drink something that looks a little less appealing than drink or eat something that is dangerous.
Aspartame and artificial sweeteners. Don’t believe it’s bad? The companies are starting to take the aspartame out of soda and now promoting this on the containers. Aspartame may lead to a number of side effects including memory loss, sore joints, and more.
Diet sodas are more dangerous than the regular. How do they do it? Zero calories in such a (normally) high sugar and calorie beverage. Don’t be fooled by the zero calories and sugar-free claims. Those numbers might look good, but you’re drinking science over sugar here. Whether you know it or not, you don’t want to be the science experiment. If you’re drinking soda, which I’d recommend 90% of the time, just drink the stuff with the sugar.
This isn’t earth shattering stuff here people.
And I know it. I just like to throw the reminder out there.
Oh yeah, in case you’re wondering about the pro. Well, I believe that sometimes a person’s got to splurge and enjoy a treat. Drinking a soda can boost your happiness when you might have that craving. But you can find that in other places too. You won’t make more money, or have a better car, or a hotter girlfriend, or whatever else the companies show you. Don’t drink soda. It’s not good.
